At the 7th Shoulder Course in Antwerp, Belgium, Prof. Martetschläger, currently Chairman of the European Shoulder Society of ESSKA, had the honor of actively participating as a member of the faculty.
The event featured an outstanding international faculty, which addressed topics such as shoulder instability, rotator cuff injuries, and shoulder prosthetics.
A special highlight was the session on current treatment of rotator cuff injuries, during which Prof. Martetschläger gave a presentation on “Partial lesions of the subscapularis tendon and their treatment.” He presented the classification of partial lesions of the subscapularis tendon that he developed.
Prof. Martetschläger was also invited to chair the subsequent session on severe and non-reconstructable rotator cuff injuries, underscoring his expertise in this field.
Other highlights of the course included live surgeries, which were broadcast directly from the operating room to the auditorium. The course organizer, Dr. A. Van Raebroeckx, demonstrated a live surgery with RM reconstruction plus patch augmentation. Prof. Martetschläger then demonstrated arthroscopic stabilization of the shoulder with modern knotless suture anchors via the 4:00 trans-subscapularis portal.
These practical insights were another highlight for participants, as they were able to watch international specialists live in the operating room and ask the surgeons questions at the same time.
A total of over 150 participants took part in the two-day course. The ESSKA Shoulder Society (ESA) was strongly represented with 10 members of the faculty, which particularly pleased the chairman, Prof. Dr. med. Martetschläger.
